Facebook Images

At the last count, I heard Facebook quoted as having close to 2.5 billion users globally – that is a lot of people. It’s also true that it provides an awful lot of potential social media pulling power for your business.

Profile Picture:

• The image should be at least 180 x 180 pixels.
• Photo will appear on 160 x 160 pixels on the desktops, 140 x 140 on smart phones and 50 x 50 on feature phones.
• Photo thumbnail will appear all over Facebook at 32 x 32 pixel

Business Profile

• The image must be at least 180 x 180 pixels.
• The image will appear on the page as 170 x 170 pixels on desktop, 128 x 128 on smart phone and 36 x 36 on feature phones.
• Photo thumbmail will appear all over Facebook at 32 x 32 pixels.
• Business page images are usually cropped to fit a square.

Header Image

• 851 x 315 (both Business and Personal Profile)
• Displays 820 x 312 on desktop
• Displays 640 x 360 on smartphone
• Minimum size 399 x 150

Ad Images

• 1200 x 628

Shared Image

• The recommended upload size should be 1,200 x 630 pixels.
• Maximum appearance width of 470 pixels
• On-page maximum image width of 504 pixels

Shared Link

• The recommended link image size is 1200 x 627 pixels.
• Minimum image size for a square in-feed image is 154 x 154 pixels and 116 x 116 pixels respectively.
• Minimum size of square image on both page and feed is 484 x 252 pixels and 470 x 246 pixels respectively.

Twitter Images

Last time I heard Twitter had about 335 million (mid 2018) users, so a long way short of Facebook, but it does still give excellent leverage for marketing purposes. Their ad platform offers cheap marketing compared to Facebook, but that’s for another day. Here are the image sizes for Twitter.

Profile Picture

• Square image size of 400 x 400 pixels.
• It will display as 200 x 200 pixels.
• Maximum file size is not more than 2 MB.

Cover Picture

• Image size for cover photo or header photo is 1500 x 500 pixels. Be careful if you add words (like a web address) ort a logo that it does not clash with the profile picture
• Maximum file size should not exceed 5 MB

Timeline Pictures

• In-stream image when expanded is 440 x 220 pixels.
• Size of in-stream photo when expanded is 1024 x 512 pixels.
• Timeline picture size propagates at 506 x 253 pixels on desktop.
• For photos, the maximum file size is 5 MB.
• If using animated GIFs, the file sizes should not exceed 5 MB on mobile or 15 MB on desktop.

Google Plus Images

G+ is more of a B2B type network and I have to confess to not really using it. I nly have 13 followers on Google Plus – that’s poor! Funnily enolugh if you search Google for “how many G+ users”…Google fails to provide an answer. Now that is coy However, if you check out Wikipedia they’ll tell you it’s 111 million users.

Profile Picture

• Image size should be at least 250 x 250 pixels.
• Maximum dimension is around 5200 x 5300 pixels.
• Maximum file size is 100 MB.

Cover Image

• Recommended cover image size is 1080 x 608 pixels
• The cover image must be a minimum of 480 x 270 and a maximum of 2120 x 1192 pixels (it will propagate accordingly).

Shared Image / Link / Video

• The “in-stream” image in will propagate at a width of 426 pixels.
• Minimum image width must be 497 pixels.
• Maximum upload size is no more than 2048 x 2048 pixels.
• Width of shared image can be 506 pixels
• If sharing video, it can be bigger than 506 x 284 pixels, but will propgate accordingly if above this size.
• Shared link image thumbnail should be 150 x 150 pixels.

YouTube Images

Profile Image

• Recommended upload size for the profile image is 800 x 800 pixels
• Image propagates as 98 x 98 pixels

Cover Image

• Recommended cover photo size is 2560 x 1440 pixels. Watch the video below to see how this image propagates. This is important!
• Maximum file size is 4 MB

Display Image Sizes

• Tablet display size is 1855 x 423 pixels
• Mobile display size is 1546 x 423 pixels
• TV display size is 2560 x 1440 pixels
• Desktop display size is supposed to be 2560 x 423 pixels (this is what YouTube says, but again, watch the video, this is NOT what happens on desltop)
• The dimension of any video uploads for the header must be at least 1280 x 720 pixels.

Instagram Images

Instagram now has 600 million users, mainly in the age group of 16-29. If you taregt market sits in this demographic, fill your boots on Instagram!

Profile Picture and Thumbnail

• Profile picture should be at 110 x 110 pixels.
• Thumbnail will propagate on page at 161 x 161 pixels.
• If uploading square images it is important to ensure you maintain 1:1 ratio
• Shared image is 1080 x 1080 pixels
• Width of any shared videos should be 1080 pixels
