7 Great Ways To Get Twitter Traffic And Followers

Today, I’ve got a pure content post for you in which I look at three great techniques for building your Twitter following. And, building a Twitter presence quickly and with that all important engagegment.

You will have often heard me talk about the importance of social media in today’s break-neck Internet Marketing world. So, here we go, three easy ways to build a large Twitter following!

Introduction To Twitter

Twitter is a place where there are a lot of people! That many people all in one place creates a massive opportunity to do business.

Imagine if you could send just 0.01% of all the traffic that hits Twitter each day…to your website or offer! That would be a massive amount of traffic – right?

The Problem With Twitter

But, there’s also a massive problem in using Twitter in this way!

What’s that?

Yep, unless you can sort the wheat from the chaff, Twitter is just a confused bundle of “noise”. Unless you can sort, put it in some sort of order and harvest that noise, you’ll never get traffic, let alone any engagement on your Tweets.

So, in this quick Twitter Traffic Cheat Sheet we’re going to try and help you make sense of how it all works and to get some true value out of Twitter.

Hold tight, here we go!

No.1 – Do It Right

You must remember that Twitter is a very specific platform. And, whilst there is a lot of buzz about other social media tools such as Facebook and Instagram, Twitter very definitely has its place.

You only have 280 characters so you must be adept at getting your message across succinctly.

However, there are numerous examples of marketers driving huge amounts of traffic using twitter.

So, get good at getting your message across, and look at other people who are successful in your niche and copy what they do.

 No.2 – Twitter Followers

twitter followersIt makes sense to get as many followers as you can on Twitter. The more followers you have the more people will see your message – that much is obvious.

However, how do you get the right followers. There are two ways.

Firstly, find people that you know operate in and are interested in your niche and follow them. Again, fairly obvious.

Another way, that is not so “in plain sight” is to find the major personalities in your niche. So, if we’re taking Internet Marketing, the likes of Ryan Deiss, Frank Kern, Mike Filsaime, Hubspot etc and then…

…look at and FOLLOW their followers.

Some of the people you follow will follow you back and so you build a relevant audience. If they are following influencers in your market, they will more than likely be a potential prospect for your business.

Consider using a tool such as Tweepi to automate your following and unfollowing. But, bear in mind there are some restraints on how quickly you can build your following in Twitter.

No.3 Dealing With Twitter “Noise”

One of the biggest issues with Twitter is the pure volume of information (tweets). There must be millions twitter trafficof tweets per day. And, even if you are following someone, the chances of you seeing a tweet are slim, they just get lost in the pure volume or general “noise” that is Twitter.

Use your own experience as an example, note at the top of the feed when you are posting…how many new tweets are made even while you just post. The new tweet remaining at the top for a very, very short time indeed.

You can see on the image on one of my very small accounts, 6 tweets within 23 seconds of posting.

It’s easy to miss tweets and it’s easy for people to miss your tweets.

The way to get around this (to some degree) is to make the tweet more than once. Maybe 2-3 times over the course of the first hour and then again tomorrow. Re-word and tweet again and if you have multiple accounts re-tweet.

Consider adding an image to make it stand out and look different.

No.4 Hash Tagging

Research suggests that tweets with hash tags #hashtags  get more than twice the engagement than those without. This obviously means more visibility and clicks as well.

Hash tags are a way of searching out content that is relevant.

So if you are into affiliate marketing and hashtag a post as follows;- #affiliatemarketing it is more likely affiliate marketers will get to see that hash tag.

If you can plug in to a hash tag trend even better. You can use this website to find hash tag ideas.

No.5 Use Calls To Action In Your Tweets

Using calls to action can be extremely beneficial in your tweeting.

What is a call to action?

Please retweet, please share, click the link. Phrases that ask your reader to actually do something with your tweet, so “please favorite this tweet”.

Unless you tell people what to do, it’s very unlikely they will do it, so use calls to action to get your readers to take the action you want.

Re-tweeting is probably the most powerful as it gets your message seen by a lot of other people, and helps build your own following more quickly.

Use techniques like asking questions to induce people to share and re-tweet. A good idea is an either / or question and ask readers to RT (retweet) for one and Fav (favorite) for then other.

No.6 Pay To Promote on Twitter

promoted tweet trafficTwitter now includes a paid platform (like Facebook Ads or Google Adwords and even YouTube nowadays).

If you don’t have time (or the inclination) to build your following organically, then paid may be the way for you.

If you pay to promote, twitter will ensure your tweets are seen by non-followers, thereby increasing your exposure.

The cost per click (cpc) are still relatively cheap and it allows you to target your audience, by niche, demographics, geography, interests etc.

If a post is “promoted” you will see it annotated as “promoted” in grey at the bottom of the post.

They also now have an in depth analytics platform so you can easily track the success of your promoted tweets.

The image shows a promoted post. Leadpages has targeted me as I have “Internet Marketing” on my interests…which is why the paid for tweet shows on my timeline.

No.7 Like And Re-Tweet Your Own Tweets

There is nothing like a bit of self-promotion 😊

It just gets that initial like and or re-tweet showing. I’m not saying this technique will bring you a ton of traffic, but it’s something you should do as a matter of course.
