I’ve been working as an SEO for over ten years now, it’s a long story, but essentially, all those years ago, I was a failing online marketer. It’s a common thread, but I was buying all the “shiney object”, “quick fix” Internet Marketing products that promised the world but delivered very little. Unexpected Events

If you have read my story, you’ll know the tragic part. Just when we’d got our lifestyle and work/life balance sorted out totally, my wife tragically died. I won’t go into the whole thing again here, it is still hugely painful. But, essentially, I ripped up the business, cut it right back and went to Spain and drank myself stupid.

When I finally came to my senses, I knew I had to pick up the pieces but wanted to do if differently.

SEO Becoming More Difficult

Google had gradually been giving more and more real-estate to the big brands and authority sites. So, it’s true it was becoming more difficult to compete and also to be fully compliant. Google were giving sites that want to rank a lot more hoops to jump through. I guess that is a method of excluding the “small Guy”. So, Search Engine Optimization was becoming more comlpex for sure.

And, when I did come back properly, it took me a while to work out what was happening. Things like Rankbrian, Google’s AI engine aspect of the algorithm was taking searcher intent to a new level. It was inherently understanding search strings better and Google was becoming more query (question) based.

So, the new SEO landscape took a bit of working out.

A Pattern Of SEO

But, once I had worked it out I saw a pattern. It was a thing of beauty!

So, wanting a new business model, it made sense (to me anyway) to systemize what I could see and make it available for everyone. The idea being that small and local businesses, entrepreneurs and small online marketers would be able to compete with the big brands and SEO Agencies.

Muddy Search Engine Waters

You see, these Guys were deliberately making the SEO waters muddy. Why would they do that?

The keep the prime Google real estate for themselves – that’s why!

They wanted ot make SEO a “closed shop” so that:-

1. The Big Brands could dominate the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages)
2. The SEO Agencies could charge small and local businesses a firtune to do SEO for you.

I heard phrases like “it’s complicated”, “it’s technical”, “get it wrong and Google will exclude you forever”, “you’ll be sandboxed and once that happens there’s no escape”.

Is this a conspiracy theory?

This Is Fact!

Well, actually NO!

The issue is that these BIG Guys have realised that search traffic is absolutely the best you can get. The reason is that searchers are searching for what you have to offer. So, when they find you via search, they are musch more likely to:-

• Click
• Engage
• Sign Up
• Buy
• Become Long Term Customers

Hmmm, now that’s powerful, profitable stuff…because it’s warmer traffic

…especially when you consider the cost of ads on Facebook and Google to get colder traffic.

This is why those big brands and SEO Agencies guarded the secret so jealously!

The 10 Mistakes Of Online Marketing

In the “10 Mistakes” report, I state that an online sales funnel is where you put cold leads in at the top and sales fall out at the bottom. This is so true. But, the idea of sales funnels have been around a long time. When I was working in industry and recruitment as a sales person, the book “The Leaky Sales Funnel” was staple reading. Everyone in the sales team had to read it. So the idea of a sales funnel is not new.

In this post, I’ll go in to a little more detail about funnels.

Value Ladder

Before you can have a funnel you really should build yourself a value ladder. I guess this is slightly more advanced given the example I’ve shown you is just a two stage funnel. The image here is taken from Russell Brunson’s superb book Dot Com Secrets, you can read my full review of Dot Com Secrets by clicking here. This is a MUST read for every aspiring marketer and was where I started out.

However, the more steps you have in your value ladder, the more likely you are to make money quickly. Each step in a value ladder needs to be a progessively more expensive product offering.

Ladder To Funnel

You can do this via your own products, or, if you are just starting out, but marketing other people’s products (affiliate marketing).

Once you have this value ladder you then need to convert it in to a funnel. Paul O’Mahony always says the funnel is an upside down value ladder. Russell Brunson talks about “from ladder to funnel”.

Essentially, the ladder is your “product journey” mapped out. So, the increasing value of products you want to take your cusomers on a journey to buy from you. The funnel is how you make that happen.

Why Build Sales Funnels

Building effective funnels is the absolute key to a successful online marketing business.

The funnel:-

• Captures your leads (customers)
• Allows you to take them on a sales journey
• When coupled with an effective autoresponder to segment your list into buying levels and deliver them the correct sales messages
• Provides you with traffic YOU own

Structure Of A Funnel

Owning Traffic

This point of traffic you own is also key. If you are paying for traffic (Facebook ads, Google ads, Solo ads etc), you do not own that traffic. If you do not collect email addresses you will always be paying for your traffic. Given that it is very difficult to make a profit on that initial sale, the list and subsequent marketing is where the money is made online.

Of course, you should always deliver value to your list members as well. You won’t get far if you just sell, sell, sell! But the fact remains, you simply must build your email list and then market to them using funnels.

Types of Online Sales Funnel

Funnels can be as complex or as simple as you like.

In the video, I show you an example of my simplest funnel. A two stage sign up funnel that promotes a back end product in order to liquidate my ad costs. This is the example of a self-liquidating funnel from Dot Com Secrets by Russell Brunson.

Again, I highly recommend you get this book if you are serious about building an online marketing business. I am mentored by and in Paul O’Mahony’s Mastermind Group and he will NOT accept anyone in to his group unless they have read Dot Com Secrets. Why? Because it lays the right foundations for building a strong and profitable business.

However, as I said, funnels can be more complex. They can also be tailored to the method of selling.

Webinar Selling Funnels

It has been proven that selling via Webinar is one of the most efficient ways of maximising sales. So, the funnel needs to be different if you want to sell via Webinars.

Here’s Russell’s Webinar Funnel taken from his Funnel Hacks product. As you can see the funnel allows for different steps which are dependent on what the customer does initially. However, as you can see, everything is based around promoting the webinar. I guess the point I am making here is that funnels can be as flexible as you need them to be.

You can, essentially, do whatever it is you want with your funnel depending on what you are selling and how.

You have the ultimate flexibility, particularly if you are building with Click Funnels.

As I showed you in the video Click Funnels is point and click, drag and drop easy. If you can pint and click a mouse you can build funnels and indeed, websites in Click Funnels. I also like the fact that you don’t need to buy your own domain and have your own hosting with all the hassle that brings. I’ve been building websites since 2006, and believe me all the hosting and technical stuff that hangs around it is a pain in the proverbial backside. Especially when things go wrong.

If something goes wrong in Click Funnels they have amazing support and they fix is very quickly.

It really is a no brainer!

Finding Tony Robbins Again

Now, if you have read my extensive piece about finding a mentor, you’ll know I am currently on Paul O’Mahony’s Mastermind version of Online Busines Mastery and am currently being mentored by him. I remember it was reading Unlimited Power that got me in to NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and taught me about the power of modelling people. So, here am I modelling Paul and he’s talking about how he modelled Tony Robbins for certain aspects of his life.

Funny Thing

Now, it’s funny how things happen – don’t you think?

So…I dug in to my old cases of books in the loft and dug out those two Tony Robbins books and started to scan through them.

“There’s some pretty good stuff here”, I thought as I flipped through the chapters.

So, I started to dip into little bits and pieces of the books depending on what it was I was trying to achieve. And, to cut a long story short, I thought to myself…

“I really ought to go and see Tony Robbins next time he is in London”.

Now, they say when the student is ready, the teacher appears. I’m not sure who or why this happens, maybe a calling to the Universe? But, lo and behold, I receive and call from one of Paul’s coaches so excited he was fit to burst.

“Tony is coming to London”, Jake almost exploded from the other end of the ‘phone.

What, huh, when?” I spluttered, “April” came the excited reply.

Paul and Tony Robbins

I remember Paul telling the story of when he first went to see Tony Robbins. It was his first exposure to this sort of event, and he met another Irish chap hiding at the back of the auditorium. They discussed just running away and going to the pub!

Hi, I thought I’d just provide an update on how this simple little funnel is working.
